HU Meeting - Dayboro

Since leaving Canberra I have shadowed my brother, sister in law and three nephews up the NSW coast, they were on a road trip of their own to Coolangatta QLD for a weeks holiday in a beach front apartment. Coolangatta is a great spot so I had a couple of days there myself, allowing me time to catch up with an old mate whom I hadn't seen for about 14 or 15 years.

I then set out to Dayboro, in the hills North West of Brisbane. The timing of my trip departure has allowed me to attend the Queensland Horizons Unlimited meeting. For the uninitiated, Horizons Unlimited is "the" overland motorcyclist travellers web site with more information and travellers stories than one could ever read and consume.

The HU meeting was great, providing a forum for travellers to present their stories, experiences and helpful tips on motorcycle travel throughout the world. It was well worth attending, meeting and watching some spectacular photographic presentations from traveller who have completed their travels and those in the midst of their adventure.

The HU meeting was held at a typical country town showground, providing plenty of grassed camp sites for tent accommodation.

After goodbyes to my delightful tent neighbours of three days at the HU meeting I set off for Cairns, spending a night at Biloela, Proserpine and Ingham along the way.

The Plan

While riding a Royal Enfield motorcycle on an organised tour through Nepal several years ago, the idea of a trip on my own motorcycle with no time or destination restraints was conceived. Upon return to home life and work I began to research the possibility of undertaking such a trip.

The internet provided me with seemingly endless information on overland motorcycle travel and web sites established by people out there living the dream. So planning of my own trip started and after several years waiting for the "right time" to undertake my adventure to come around, I am now on the road living my dream.

The plan is to set off from Darwin, ride through South East Asia, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Africa and beyond with the only constraints being visas, the weather and my desire to continue travelling.

I will be providing updates to this blog whenever I can, keeping written word to a minimum and letting the photos tell the storey.
